Support will help fight senior isolation and hunger in greater metropolitan Chicago
CHICAGO, November 30, 2018 – CJE SeniorLife is excited to support Meals on Wheels America in Subaru of America, Inc.’s 11th Annual Share the Love Event. From now until January 2, 2019, Subaru will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased to the customer’s choice of the following charities: ASPCA®, Make-A-Wish®, Meals on Wheels America, and National Park Foundation.
Through social media and outreach, CJE is excited to support Meals on Wheels America as one of Subaru’s longstanding chosen charitable partners. CJE has also collaborated with local retailer Evanston Subaru to deliver meals to clients in Evanston and Skokie. Meals on Wheels America supports local, community-based senior nutrition programs, such as CJE’s Home-Delivered Meals program (HDM), to ensure that no senior is hungry or alone. Each donation helps to deliver the nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks that enable America’s seniors to live nourished lives with independence and dignity.
CJE’s HDM program, in operation for more than thirty years, helps to reduce the food insecurity of low-income, homebound seniors. Seniors rely on this program because many have difficulty paying for groceries and are physically and/or cognitively unable to shop and cook for themselves. Isolated individuals also benefit from social interactions with the caring HDM volunteers delivering hot meals.
Each year, support from Meals on Wheels America is vital to maintaining this safety-net service for CJE’s most vulnerable clients. Over the last 10 years, through the Share the Love Event, Subaru of America and its participating retailers have donated more than $118 million to charity, with customers choosing between four national and over 1,170 hometown charities. This year, Subaru is on track to bring that total to over $140 million. If Subaru customers make Meals on Wheels America their choice charity this year, CJE SeniorLife and Chicago’s older adults will continue to benefit.
Since 1972, CJE SeniorLife has enhanced the lives of older adults and their families through an innovative, comprehensive network that includes life enrichment programs, supportive resources, healthcare, research and education. CJE is a partner with the Jewish United Fund in serving our community. For more information about CJE services, call 773.508.1000 or visit www.cje.net.
