CJE SeniorLife To Host 8th Annual Policy, Advocacy and You Event with Local Organizations for Jewish Disability Awareness Month

CHICAGO, February 7, 2020 – In recognition of Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance and Inclusion Month, CJE SeniorLife’s Linkages program is collaborating with several Chicago area organizations to host the 8th annual Policy, Advocacy and You event for adults with disabilities, older adults, family members, professionals and students on Tuesday, February 25.

Policy, Advocacy and You: Affordable and Accessible Housing will highlight the critical shortage of accessible and affordable housing in the Chicago area and the impact that this has on older adults and adults with disabilities. Local community housing advocacy programs will highlight what can be done to influence and create positive change around housing issues. Featured speakers will include Noah Moskowitz, Senior Housing Organizer at ONE Northside, and Cathleen O’Brien, Community Development Organizer at Housing Access Living. As well, David Block, Director of Development at Evergreen Real Estate Group will address the challenges faced by developers.

Sponsored by Access Living, CJE SeniorLife/Linkages, JCFS Chicago, ONE Northside, The ARK, and the UIC Department of Disability and Human Development, the program has created a safe space to explore important policy changes, share personal experiences, and join forces to harness the collective advocacy power of individuals, their families and organizations.

“We hope participants in this program will hear that positive change can happen and will learn about how to influence positive police change,” said Rosann Corcoran, Manager of Counseling Services at CJE SeniorLife. “Awareness and understanding are our best tools in being good advocates and that is the purpose of this event.”

Community members and professionals working in programs that are impacted by disability and aging policy changes are encouraged to attend this year’s event. The program is free for adults with disabilities, older adults, family members, personal attendants and students. Professionals are welcome to attend for a fee of $40, which includes breakfast and 3 CEUs (LSW, LCSW, LPC, LCPC, QIDP).
