CHICAGO, July 13, 2021 – CJE SeniorLife (CJE) was recently awarded a $25,000 CVS Health Community Grant as part of CVS Health’s commitment to increasing access to quality health care and building healthier communities. This support from CVS Health will help CJE’s Consumer Assistance program continue to provide vital services to vulnerable older adults in the community.
CJE’s Consumer Assistance program provides free guidance and advocacy to help diverse low-income older adults and individuals with disabilities access government entitlements and private assistance for which they are eligible related to health care, food, housing, utility assistance, and other basic needs. The Consumer Assistance team of Resource Specialists have expertise in dealing with health care issues and are certified Senior Health Insurance Program counselors. They help clients determine and apply for the most cost-effective plans in the complex system of health insurance, including Medicare.
Consumer Assistance also provides Emergency Financial Assistance to address clients’ immediate financial needs due to a crisis, such as job loss, high medical and dental bills, or needing help finding affordable housing. In addition, the team connects clients with community support groups, food pantries, and senior companion programs.
Consumer Assistance collaborates with many partner organizations enabling its Resource Specialists to bring free benefits counseling directly to the community via 14 outposts in libraries, synagogues, and senior centers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team is providing services remotely via telephone until CJE can safely resume face-to-face services. Services are provided in English and Russian.
“As a pharmacy innovation company, we are committed to helping people on their path to better health. We are proud to support organizations that increase access to quality health care because we know their efforts are critical to delivering better community health,” said Eileen Howard Boone, Senior Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility and Philanthropy, CVS Health. “We are pleased to support the work that CJE SeniorLife does in the community and we look forward to working with them to fulfill their program’s mission.”
