CHICAGO, November 1, 2018 – CJE SeniorLife’s Home-Delivered Meals program (HDM) has been selected to receive $2,000 from The Kroger Co. Foundation. The funds will help support HDM’s efforts to reduce hunger and improve nutrition for older adults in the community. This gift is made possible by the dedicated partnership with the Mariano’s operating division of the Kroger Family of Companies.
This generous grant will help CJE to better serve the seniors throughout greater metropolitan Chicago who rely so heavily on vital home-delivered meal services and well-being checks by CJE’s dedicated staff and volunteers. CJE’s HDM program helps to reduce the food insecurity of low-income, homebound seniors living in the north and northwest neighborhoods of Chicago, as well as in Evanston, Niles Township, Northfield Township and New Trier Township. Each year, support from grants is critical to maintaining meal service for CJE’s most vulnerable clients. CJE delivered 68,649 meals to 301 low-income older adult clients in 2018.
“The services that we provide the seniors of the greater metropolitan Chicago area are critical and the need is rapidly increasing,” said Magdalyn Guzzo, Manager, Home-Delivered Meals/Kosher To Go. “Together, we can keep seniors living independently, healthier at home and feeling more connected to their community as they age.”
The Kroger Co. Foundation places communities at the center of what they do. They have always served those who are hungry in their neighborhoods—a tradition Barney Kroger started when he opened his first store nearly 135 years ago. The Kroger Co. Foundation’s purpose to Feed the Human SpiritTM is strategically focused on advancing Kroger’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste social impact plan. The Kroger Co. Foundation is working to end hunger in its various communities.
