A Second Thank You to Repeat PPE Donations

As if one delivery of face masks and shields was not enough, a couple of our donors went right back to their work and produced even more items for use by some of our CJE locations and others. Here are two exhibits of their resourcefulness and tenacity.

A Second Thank You to Repeat PPE Donations

Exhibit 1: CJE Client Ivan Handler has already donated 50 plastic shields to Lieberman Center. Not long after that donation, he contacted us again and said he had another supply of about 40 shields, produced on his 3D printer. Handler handed over two bags of plastic face shields to May Keen, daughter of a CJE staffer. They made the transfer in his entryway as they both practiced careful social distancing, of course, and Keen delivered them directly to Lieberman Center. Lieberman Center staff appreciates this new infusion of PPE to help keep them safe during the pandemic.

Exhibit 2: Thanks to the hard work of CJE Volunteer Mary S., all persons living in our Housing Services apartments and group living have each received hand-made protective masks. She had previously provided 100 of her colorful masks to CJE’s Volunteer Coordinator, Marla Goldberg, and about 30 more to Consumer Assistance.

Recently, Mary called David Guthridge, Housing Management Services Director, about some more masks for pickup, and a whopping 460 more masks were retrieved from her. This was enough masks so that all our residents got a mask, as well as some Transportation Drivers who were put into service delivering Home Delivered Meals. Guthridge had a staff member put them in individual Ziploc bags for distribution to residents, with a statement (also in Russian) with instructions on how to wear them and how CJE came by them.

This was quite a mask-making accomplishment. “I did tell Mary that she is our local hero,” reports Guthridge. We second that! Many, many thanks Mary S. for all your work producing masks.
