Residents of Weinberg Community were given the simple prompt of “What are you grateful for?” and did they respond! One resident said she was grateful for “my family.” Another appreciated the “delicious food.” A talented artist even sent a self-portrait expressing her feelings about being alive and able to draw at 88!
This joint project came about when the Dining Team began adding brain games and other activities to the daily menus. They shared residents’ thoughtful answers with management, and, since the answers submitted were so positive and heartwarming, Executive Director Jennifer Weininger felt they deserved more prominent treatment. So, Michele Mangrum, CJE’s Outreach Manager, pitched in and created this inspiring heart-laden collage.
By gathering the gratitude snippets together in graphic format for all to see (and be cheered by), Weinberg Community staff helped residents focus on affirmative thoughts in a time that could be difficult for some—like those separated from families, or individuals stressed about their health or by the sight of everyone wearing face masks. As you read over these musings, take some time to think about what things you are grateful for right now. Even if it is just toilet paper!
