Diversity is an important issue for any organization, but it’s not simply enough to recruit and hire people of different nationalities, races, religions, genders, sexual orientations and cultures. Everyone needs to feel like they are truly welcome, safe and free to be themselves in their workplace. That is where the concept of inclusion comes in. Inclusion means that employees have a sense of belonging, regardless of background, culture differences, or experience. Combined with equal opportunity policies inclusion creates a healthier, more productive work environment. When people are comfortable being themselves, they are likely to be more productive, more engaged in their work and less likely to leave the organization. Clearly, a win-win.
