Community Programs

Ongoing Community Programs include:

  • Lakeshore Mercaz Program

The Lakeshore Mercaz is a collaborative effort between Anshe Emet, Anshe Sholom B’nai Israel, Emanuel Congregation, Temple Sholom and CJE. It brings together Jewish older adults across Chicago—whether they belong to a synagogue or not— for lifelong learning opportunities.

The Mercaz offers a sophisticated range of educational programs with a strong focus on spirituality and links older adults to a larger Jewish community through these shared resources. Programs are offered once a month and rotate from synagogue to synagogue.

Favorite programs from the past include Jewish holiday music and Jewish themes movies.

  • Programs for Older Adults at the Horwich Building

Older adults can participate in weekly programs at the Horwich Building in Rogers Park such as Scrabble, Live Music and Conversation and a discussion group called Schmooze It or Lose It.  Most programs are free and some require an R.S.V.P.

  • Community Senior Adults at Lieberman Center

The Community Senior Adults program meets on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Lieberman Center in Skokie.  Lunch, socializing, and entertainment is always on the menu! Please call 773.508.1047 for more information.

For more information, including fees, please call 773.508.1115

Dance/Movement Therapy motivates people with Parkinson’s to keep moving and helps to decrease Parkinson’s symptoms, allowing for more controlled and organized movement. Focus is on participants’ movement rather than traditional dance, though dance styles can be suggested. Benefits include increased flexibility, energy and range of motion.
