As more and more people are being vaccinated, the CDC relaxes some guidelines about getting together with others, and as the weather improves many are beginning—ever so slowly—to venture out to stores, social activities, or even planning travel. For many, if not most, this time of change is anxiety provoking. We read about new variants and “breakthrough cases” of COVID-19 among those who have been vaccinated that, while rare, make this a challenging time to navigate. What is safe? What isn’t? How does one handle it when their own conclusions about what they are and are not comfortable doing is at odds with family members or friends?

In this video, watch a recording of our Insights on Aging virtual community education program presented by CJE Counseling Services on June 11, 2021. This program will provide some tools and strategies to cope with reopening anxiety and how best to traverse these turbulent waters.

Often there are negative labels used to describe friends and family members who are trying to help a loved one who is struggling with drug and/or alcohol misuse. The words “enabler” and “codependent” are commonly used and these labels may feel hurtful to the person trying to be helpful.

In this video, watch a recording of our Insights on Aging virtual community education program presented by CJE Counseling Services on July 16, 2021. This presentation will teach participants how to recognize signs and symptoms of substance misuse and define the traditional roles that friends and family play when coping with addictive behaviors. Participants will learn a new and more curative way to view themselves and the loved ones they are trying to help.
