Depression and Anxiety in Older Adults: A Clinical and Spiritual Perspective

Presenters:
Sharon Dornberg-Lee, LCSW, CJE SeniorLife
Rabbi Michelle Stern, CJE SeniorLife

Depression and anxiety in older adults often arises in the context of loss: from loss of loved ones, to loss of health and independence, to the contemplation of one's own death. Clinicians working with older adults may overlook the spiritual dimension - broadly defined - that can be a component of depression and anxiety. This session will incorporate both clinical intervention strategies and the spiritual components involved in addressing depression and anxiety, with particular attention to the meaning-making process in late life.  Case-based discussion will be integrated throughout the presentation.
