About
Whether its singing holiday songs, delivering a nutritious kosher meal to a homebound senior or having a heartfelt conversation over a game of cards, CJE SeniorLife volunteers bring comfort and cheer to seniors.
CJE SeniorLife Volunteer Department provides the agency with a corps of trained volunteers, putting in more than 65,000 hours of compassionate service, equal to $ 1,200,000 of compensation. We recruit and train volunteers who are committed to CJE SeniorLife’s mission of providing vital services to older adults in the community. There are many rewarding volunteer opportunities within CJE SeniorLife, depending on your interests.
Volunteers are hosts/hostesses and substitute receptionists at Consumer Assistance. Volunteers assist staff on a variety of projects, as needed.
Volunteers are assigned clients and visit with them in the client’s home on a monthly basis to help organize/pay their bills.
Volunteers assist clerical staff with typing, mailing, collating, filing, billing, or gathering data for special projects.
Volunteers accompany clients to provide comfort and knowledge about what is occurring through the court system. Volunteers help coordinate educational workshops on crime and safety.
Specially trained volunteers guide visitors through the agency’s facilities and speak about its programs.
Friendly Visitors are trained to provide a variety of duties on a one-to-one basis with clients and may include listening, talking, reading, writing letters, walking, shopping and escorting clients. Friendly Visitors are supervised by the older person's caseworker and report back to the professional staff regularly. Visitation takes place in a client’s home one hour/per week.
Volunteers operate CJE SeniorLife’s gift shop located at Lieberman. The hours of the shop are Monday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Volunteers assist with arts and crafts, help with horticultural projects, provide entertainment, lead discussion groups, share hobbies or special interests, assist with Shabbat and Holiday Programs, go on trips and do a variety of other tasks as needed at all CJE SeniorLife facilities. Individuals and/or groups may volunteer.
Volunteers deliver daily meals as well as observe clients’ nutritional needs. Meals are delivered from Lieberman, Monday-Friday.
Volunteers facilitate programs (like Bubbies & Babies) where young people visit with CJE SeniorLife clients.
Volunteer attorneys provide legal counseling to individual clients and educational seminars to groups on such issues as wills, landlord-tenant relationships and consumer rights.
Volunteers help feed breakfast, lunch or dinner to Lieberman residents. A commitment of one hour/per week is needed.
Volunteers give mini-manicures weekly to clients in CJE SeniorLife facilities.
Volunteers bring their dogs (following CJE SeniorLife approval) to visit clients one hour/per week.
Shabbat Luncheon is a group volunteer activity in which individual or corporate donors sponsor a pre-Shabbat luncheon, approximately every other Friday, for about 55 CJE SeniorLife clients. Volunteers organize and manage the Shabbat Luncheon at the different sites.
These volunteers are available as needed for special projects like translating, registrations, surveys, outreach, rent rebate assistance, etc. The variety of requests for special tasks is endless and volunteers with special skills and talents are much needed by the agency.
Volunteers provide much needed transportation to clients as needed. While all that is required is transportation to/from the destination outside the agency's target area, moral support plays a large role in each service delivery.
